On Campus Transition

The On Campus Transition Program, or OCT Program, was designed to allow young adults with intellectual and development differences (I/DD) to experience college. The Arc Jacksonville has partnered with UNF to allow these students to get the college experience they wouldn't be able to get anywhere else. After eleven years and over 50 graduates, OCT is proud to be a part of the Osprey Family.
Each year, we look to the student body to help us help our students. We base the program on a peer philosophy that working side by side, young adults will perform better than if paired with an adult.
In recruiting students to mentor the OCT students, we look for anyone who has an hour a week or more to spare. Our mentors spend time with the OCT students teaching life skills, independence, social skills, and many more.
OCT students enjoy college life like all other students. They struggle with demands of academics, social relationships, and most importantly, financial responsibility. They are no different than most students on campus, and even some adults.
OCT is always offering opportunities for students. We need volunteers to help our students with academics, health and wellness, financial literacy, work readiness, and social skills.
