The students participated in this industry sponsored fundraising event for scholarships for CCEC students.
This fall the College of Computing, Engineering and Construction held its 6th annual Student Club Cookout in the courtyard of Bldgs 4 and Bldg 50. The student planning committee consisted of several club officers and members from Osprey Racing, Society of Women Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Society of Women Advancing Technology and Computing, American Concrete Institute and National Society of Black Engineers. The events main intent is to connect with freshman students and help them get acclimated to many clubs that falls under CCEC. The students enjoyed games, food vendors, various other campus departments that tabled and lots of music. The event was also open for other students on campus to check out the myriad of clubs and what they offer. In attendance, we had 331 students: 46 Building Construction management, 49 Civil engineering, 72 Computing, 21 Electrical Engineers, 71 Mechanical Engineers and 72 other students from various majors around campus.
This was a planning committee meeting for the 2018 Northeast Florida Engineering Week Events Feb 18th - 24th). This week is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce by increasing understanding of and interest in engineering and technology careers. During this week there are several events that practicing engineers and their associates in the field participate in to promote engineering. Professors from UNF are nominated for special awards, as well as, engineers in the field. There are a host of events such as a golf tournament; a Kickoff luncheon; a Transportation Summit; Construction Career Days for high schools; Mathcount competition for middle schools an award banquet; a community service day with boy scouts. College students in engineering also are awarded scholarships by engineering firms during this week of events.
