Grow for Good: Community Garden Volunteer Experience

Monday, August 10th from 12:00pm to Saturday, December 12th, 2026 2:00pm

About

Get your hands in the soil and help grow something that matters!

UNF students are invited to participate in a hands-on community gardening experience focused on growing fresh vegetables for the local community. Volunteers will work alongside community partners to prepare, plant, maintain, and harvest vegetable gardens throughout the fall 2026 semester.

No gardening experience is necessary. This is a great opportunity to learn practical gardening and food production skills while making a meaningful contribution to improving access to fresh, nutritious foods.

Volunteer activities may include:

  • Preparing buckets, barrels, and raised garden beds for planting
  • Mixing and adding soil, perlite, and other growing materials
  • Planting vegetable seeds and seedlings
  • Starting seeds in trays for future planting
  • Weeding and maintaining growing areas
  • Removing spent plants and preparing containers for the next crop
  • Harvesting fresh vegetables for community sale and donation

Why volunteer?

You'll gain hands-on experience with gardening, sustainable food production, and community food systems while working alongside other UNF students. Most importantly, you'll help turn a few seeds, some soil, and your time into fresh food that can benefit members of our community.

Come ready to learn, work, get a little dirty, and grow food for a purpose!

Schedule: Beginning August 20, 2026 and continuing every other Thursday throughout the fall semester.

Who can participate: Any student or community member is welcome. No experience is required.
